nandyala: The place where I started my life.

Nandyala is a small town in Andhra Pradesh state in Bharath (India). I learned things here, made friends here, studied here and most importantly learned about life here. This town is a window which exposed me to the outer world and this website is a reflection of what I saw through this window. Please come in…

  2. Hi Vijay and Indira,

I ran a search on google for some indian food recipes and i came across ur site. Wow! Mrs.Indira is really a good cook. The recipes on ur site really made me feel like i was back home (I m from hyd). The clarity of pics and ur description of the cooking etc is really good..especially for beginners like me.Very few sites actually use pure telugu terminology in their recipes.I was anxious & i went to ur homepage to check out some more pics. Anyway, i just felt like leaving a comment. Good Job !!!! Good Photography ! Good recipes!

Now that i know where to look for recipes, i can cook good meals for my husband.Thanks.

  11. Hi Vijay (and everybody who is involved in bringing up this site),

This is a wonderful and very unique site .. especially the way food preparation is presented in various stages. Fabulous collection of recipes. When I am on this site, it feels like I am at home .. watching my mom cook (I am from Anantapur and most of these food items are prepared by my mother). I have not had a chance to go through the entire site yet. I am sure it has much more to offer. Thanks for your gift to us readers.

It is most refreshing to visit this site. I feel as though you are at times, speaking my thoughts especially regarding life and foods of India( Bharath, as you call it). Even though I am originally from Bengal, my father’s service with the Indian Railways took us all over India.

  29. Hi Vijay,

I was pleased to see Nandyala website. I was born in Kurnool and moved to Nandyala when I was 5 years. I studied in the same school as you did. remember my class teacher’s name was “Mrs.Ranganayakamma” or something like that. My father’s work place was very close to the school. There use to be a big POND in that area called ROJA KUNTA. Is it still there? After couple of years we moved to ANANTAPUR, as result of my father’s job transer.

We visited Mahanandi number of times and I still remember the KOLANU in side and outside the temple.

Can you put in some more pictures/details of NAVA NANDIs around Nandyala?

    Thanks.

    Anand

    Hello Anand,

Nice to hear from a person lived in Nandyala. I have been thinking of taking the Navanandis photos around Nandyala. When I go to India next time I will definitely do it, but I think it will take time.

Rojakunta is not there anymore. The place is there but, the ‘kunta’ is not there. There have been some constructions in that place.

    Thanks,

    Vijay

It is good to find you again! For a while I was not able to get to your site – it used to be a pleasure to learn along with you and find new things to make. It is one thing to prepare from a book and another when you know that someone has put heart and soul and tried it just now! Your simple and elegant descriptions and some related story or background adds a texture of culture and tradition which I am truly grateful for. I will pick up where I’d left and be richer for that.
Thanks and keep up the good work.

  52. Hi Vijay n Indira,

Greetings to you from Vijay in Dubai.

Accidentally I happen to see your(our) website and felt very happy. It’s great work you people are doing.

I am born and brought in Nandyal. Finished my schooling(1981) in SPG High School, and college in PSC & KVSC Govt.College.

Now I am working in Dubai since 1995 and living with my family. My parents are in Nandyal, and I am visiting them every year. By the way I am going to Nandyal on 23rd of July and coming back on 5th August.

Mahanandi was our favourite place in our childhood. In summer holidays without fail we use to go there and chill out every week. Some times we go by train upto Gazulapalli station and walk from there to Mahanandi. And most of the time we use to go by cycle. How can we forget those golden days?

Once again thank you very much for the good work. My e-mail: vijaykatari99@gmail.com

    Best Regards.

  61. Hi Vijay,

Long time we spoke. How are you and where are you now? I am still in Chennai. Well, one request. Could you please remove my mail id mentioned previously in the text posted in the year 2006. Thank you.

Always think about Nandyal. I wish to settle in Nandyal once retired 🙂

    Hello Phanee,
It’s good to see your comment again. We are well, how are you and the family?
We also have the same goal, retire in Nandyala. May be we would be meeting there in our retirement age.:)
    Take care,
    Vijay

  67. What a delight to see the website www. nandyal.org, and I’m grateful to Vijay and Indira for creating it to share memories of the past.

My name is Midturi Swaminadham, and studied at one of the best schools in Nandyal the SPG High School.I belong to history and passed my SSLC (11th grade) in 1960!, a long time ago. Thereafter, I graduated from Anantapur Engineering College, then from Indian Institute of Technology. Kharagpur, worked a few years in Bangalore.
Now, I’m a retired professor of Mechanical Engineering from an American University and settled down in the city Little Rock, Arkansas, USA. Anybody traveling through Little Rock Arkansas, my wife (from Maddur near Nandyal) and I invite you to stay with us as our guests.

I’ve fond memories of SPG High School and Nandyal, and continue to visit once in three years. I don’t know how long, but I long to visit the place again. Thanks to Vijay and Indira. Great work.
