  1. Hi Indira,

It was my birthday today, but it indeed has been a sad day. We have been glued to the television sets since evening trying to catch on the recent developments on the Mumbai blasts. Have eeb trying to reach friends in Mumbai on phone, but all networks are jammed. I was in Mumbai for a few years and used those local trains regularly. Just thinking of it is sending shivers down my spine. Life is so unpredictable….I end with a short prayer for all those who have been affected by these blasts.

  3. I take this personally because it is the city I grew up in, love and keep longing to go back to. It was so disturbing to see the images – innocent people returning home from a hard day at work in the very trains that I used for so many years. What is the point of this I wonder?

  4. Happy Birthday Shilpi!
I was preparing a post for my blog, then I heard this news. Very painful and the news totally killed my energy and sucked the lifeforce out of me. I am really sad and emotional for our country.

  5. We don’t have to harm innocents without a reason, but we need to defend our innocents from the harm. How long do we bear this? It could have been my brother, myself, your sister, your brother, or any of us.

We need to force our governments to eliminate these inhuman terrorists, and we should elect the governments who would do this.

  6. What a horrible, mindless and spineless thing to do. These are hard working people trying to make their ends meet. My heart goes out to their families. Some are probably daily wage laborers. What a cowardly act !

  7. Vijay, I agree with you 100%

  8. A very very sad incident indira, what a petty..im feeling so bad for the families those who have lost their loved ones..I dont understand y these people are attacking innocent people.
I used to take the local trains when i was in mumbai..and what a safe place..even at night 11:00, a girl can walk all alone without any fear..I used to always return by 10:00 pm, what a pitty..and mindless act…

As rightly said by Vijay, we must enforce our government to look into these matters and bring a permant solution as early as possible else india is set to loose more innocent people for no mistake of theirs..

  11. We should become like Israel. They are bombing every nook and corner of palestine for one of their soldier, and here we are doing nothing. I agree with Vijay too. Truly this is a very unfortunate event.

  12. Every day as I travel in the train in SFO, I keep thinking it should be safe – especially after the london train incident, And to think that this happnd right back in India it is heart wrenching. I think people in Mumbai are taking too much brunt for welcoming people with wide arms.. I just could not express my pain and shock reading thro all the comments and experiences of the fellow-passengers…

To think – they would have been thinking what to cook as soon as they reach home, what to buy their children on the way back home, what to do for the weekend.. All the plans to go up in smoke – how much of rehab some of them may need having hit against the iron rods, some of them torn apart, fractures and what not…

God why do they have to do this !!!!!

  15. It is a mix of sadness & anger today. These attacks happen every other day these days, but it seems like an issue as long as it is in the news, people tend to forget unless they are affected, which infact makes me more sad.

  16. It was painful to hear the stories and to see the images. I really hope we don;t get to hear this too often in future. *shudder*

  17. Many of my relatives were travelling on the western line, coming back home from work, when the bomb blasts occured. Luckily all escaped. One saw the blast in front of his eyes at Mira road station. My husband and me were totally panicked as we are in Canada and were not able to contact anyone in mumbai. Yahoo messenger was useful and thru friends online we could exchange messages with family members. It was totally shocking.

  22. What a terrible day. My cousin’s husband is in hospital with burns, and he was luckier than many people on his train. Since I was four, I’ve taken trains on the western line, to school, college, and work. Yesterday, when I saw one of the photos of the blasts online, I recognized my neighborhood in the background. My mother said one of the bombed trains came to a halt right across from our balcony overlooking the tracks. She could see and hear the fear and pain of people coming out of the mangled train. Workmen spent all night removing mangled wires and metal from the tracks by lamplight, in the rain. Trains are running today. As a child, my lost her home in the Bombay Explosion of 1944, and now, in her seventies, terrorism is at her door. Still, she’s one of the gentlest, calmest people I know. I pray for all those who lost their life and limbs, and for the bereaved families.

  24. So sad and terrifying.Such a shame on our government still letting these incidents happen hurting thousands of innocent people. All they do is tracking whoever did this and that and make fake promises as if they are going to stop this. But what’s the use in regreting after the harm is done.So…sad. Uma, so sorry to hear about your cousin’s husband.Wish he would get better soon.

  25. I agree with you Vijay, my father went to attend a wedding to mumbai and fortunately he was back one day before the gruesome attacks by the terrorists, but there are many other innocent people who are not fortunate enough and became a prey. Iam sorry Uma, hope your cousin’s husband gets well soon. This is very sad, I sincerely hope some force could stop this from repeating.

  28. Very tragic. Violence is never the solution to anything. “An eye for an eye” only makes people blind and doesn’t resolve anything.
