Flavors of Life ~ Coconut Saplings

Coconut Saplings by Sree
Coconut Saplings ~ Sketch by Sree
(Colored pencils on paper 6″x9″)

My dad is an avid gardener. If he had not been an engineer, I am sure he would have been a farmer. Ironically, the soil at our place is not fertile enough for his efforts to bear fruit. But he never gives up. These are ‘extra’ coconut saplings lying in my backyard. Now a convenient “hide n seek” play area for the kittens. :)

  1. Sree,
I think I would get along very well with your Dad :)
I caught my Gardening bug very early in life from my dear Mom. We used to have a tiny balcony and tons of plants. My Dad used to joke that the building might fall with the sheer weight of our pots and plants :)
Very nice sketch of the coconut saplings.

  3. What a striking picture! Thanks, Sree and Indira, for sharing it. And also the little note about Sree’s dad’s gardening, and the kittens’ new hiding place! I’m surprised the kitties haven’t chewed the leaves, though. That was the fate of my poor papyrus, with a kitten in the house.

  11. I use compost to enrich the soil and grow veggies in a raised bed, which is easy to make.

  12. Hi,
I have always loved your website. This though is the first time I am writing. I love your recipes. I also admire your respect for food in general and how you celebrate each food tiem for it’s own unique virtues.

I am writing today for your opinion. I have a celebration coming up and for the part, I decided on a cheese platter and either bruschetta or gobi manchurian for starters.Dessert will be phirni.
For dinner I know I want to serve rice and naan. However, I can’t decide on the curries. I want to serve 2 wet and one dry dish. But I wnat it ot be different. Not the usual indian dishes, something different. Any suggestions by you would be welcome.

  17. Unfortunately, in the climate in the territory where I now live, it is not particularly possible to grow something. Since plants are my big hobby, I am thinking about moving. What do you say, is it worth it?
