  3. Indira, what do you use star anise for? I have really fresh spices from Malabar and the freshness and aroma can’t be beat. I have never used star anise, but picked it up for the shape!

    btw, can I add a link to your site in my favorite blogs list on my blog?

    I also brought these spices from Nandyala. They are the best.

  8. What do you say for Star Anise in Hindi/Tamil/Telugu? The list for Indian Spices is endless… Indira, I think you should post a pic which also includes the following Bay leaves, Saunf, Black Cardomom. Just seeing your pics is like having a sumputous meal!

    We call it ‘puvvu’ in Telugu, means flower. Tamil and Hindi..going for google search.

  9. I’m also thinking that black mustard seeds should make the cut over star anise, even if they aren’t as pretty.

    Interesting idea though. I wonder if there’s some way to incorporate the whole spices into your site’s design somehow.

  10. Indira – I have never used Stat Anise, though there is a bottleful at home. Don’t know when/why my husband bought it.

    so do give me desi recipes with anise in it.maybe I can finish my stock in the next 8 years!

  11. I am looking for a spice that you put in rice.
    My boyfried loves the taste of it (his ex use to
    use it all the time) but he is unsure of the name… Could you please be so kind and tell me. All I know is that it is small and brown.
    P.S I LOVE YOUR WEBSITE.. My friend and I were going to join a class to learn, now I am going to try these wonderful sounding recipes. Thank you ffor aking the time out of your live to teach us.

    Hi Kimberlee, small brown thing in rice – I think it could be cloves, or cinnamon stick or cumin seeds.
