Hi!
I live in an older neighborhood in S.Florida & there are 3 established mango trees in my back yard---most of my neighbors also have mango trees! We love eating them out of hand or in smoothies every morning & I also make a mango vinaigrette for salads.
You have a beautiful, fantastic website & I plan to spend hours here, acquainting myself with all the wonderful recipes!
I see many mango recipes I am going to make, but I have a little problem; my DH is on low carb & I am planning a dinner party tomorrow night--I would love to make something mango using stevia or even splenda instead of sugar---anything like that up your sleeve please?
In appreciation of all you have shared here, I would very much like to send you some green mangoes so you can make pickles.
Thanks again,
Sophia in S.Florida, in the middle of mango heaven!

Indira replies:
Hi Sophia, 3 mango trees in backyard? What a heaven like place that must be! You are the luckiest person in the world as far as I am concerned. :)
There are almost 50 to 60 mango recipes in Jihva for Ingredients-Mango page on Mahanandi and several of them are desserts. I think you can replace sugar with splenda for all those recipes. How about a mango cake or mango cheese cake or mango pie. My personal favorite is mango-almond-oatmeal cookies by Baking Fairy (you can find the link in JFI-Mango page on the sidebar).
Have a great weekend party and thank you for your kind offer.

Hi Indira,

I often lurk on your sites whenever I miss Home. and I did love your recipes for Tomato Chutney, Payasam. tehy are staples in our house now. The majjiga mirapakaya was delicious. This summer I made almost 2 kgs of home made majjiga mairapakaya here in US...thanks to you. The pictures on your site are amazingly good. I hail from Kakinada (AP) and as soon as I saw this picture of mavidi tandra, I had to post...really thanks for an amazing picture. I know this is an earlier post but over at Sarpavaram in our area Tandra is made from jaggery and mango. basically mango pulp is mixed with jaggery and spread on hand woven mats and dries in the sun...anyway, thanks for bringing back some yummy recipes....Keep up the good work!! Please know that we are all very thankful...although we dont say it often ;-)

Hi Indira- Thanks for trying the mango rice. Glad that you liked it.

Lovely picture of dried mango and mango jam. Looking forward to JFM posts.

Indira replies:
Mika, your recipe really is *Divine*. Your suggestion about adding the mustard powder really made this 'pulihora', very unique and tasty. Vijay and I Loved the taste. Thanks for sharing this recipe with us.
Looking forward to reading your entry for JFI-Mango.

Wow! Looks beautiful. I am taking one piece. I didn't know we could make this at home. No recipe?

Indira replies:
Its difficult to prepare here, RP. Hot sun and good quality mango is needed to prepare this kind of candy.
I bought this bar from Indian grocery shop.

Indira...

I have a 1 kg block of taandra right now... sluurrppp, enjoying it piece by piece.

I bought in my village women's co-operative.

Is sugar added when making the preserve or is it just pulp? Iam sure you know.

Indira replies:
Wow, 1 kg block... I am jealous.
This sugar added one is from Pittsburgh Indian grocery shop. The taste is ok.
But nothing can beat our home style version.
