Weekend This & That ~ Our School

School Library
Our School Update ~ New Library

One thing we always wanted to do for our school is build a decent, dedicated library. We were able to get it materialized this year and the opening ceremony will be on August 15th. About 20,000 rupees worth of books are purchased for the library, most of them are from this list. All sorts of books that would interest children are purchased in Telugu, Hindi and English languages.

The largest room in the school building is dedicated for library and what you see in this photo is a part of the library with bookshelves and seating arrangement. Other side of the library (not in the photo) is for smaller kids styled in small scale. The room and the furniture are designed keeping children’s needs in mind, with comfortable seating and good lighting.

Everyone in our family worked whole heartedly to complete this project. We have to say major thanks to our dear friends Lakshmi and Prasad Anandaraman for their interest and generous contributions for this cause.

This Independence Day on August 15th is going to be very special in our school because of this new addition and the school children voted for jangri to celebrate this sweet occasion after flag hoisting.

  5. Congratulations! Great going…To add a library to a school is to give that school a soul.
A little library growing each year is an honorable part of a school’s history. As Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis said, “There are many ways to enlarge your child’s world. Love of books is the best of all.” As a qualified librarian, I feel that it is timely to remember the famous quote about Library by Richard Armour.

    “Here is where people,
    One frequently finds,
    Lower their voices
    And raise their minds.”

I Wish the kids of your school inspiration, education, information and entertainment.
    Happy Independence Day!!!

  7. Indira,
It is overwhelming to see a school grow like that. Also, it fills me up with hope and optimistic thoughts. Although I am a ‘passive well-wisher of our country’ at the moment, I feel happy to see that ‘someone out there is doing something for our people’. Thanks for being there for our children.

  9. Thanks all for your nice and encouraging words.

Quite few of ‘Mahanandi’ readers are emailing me enquiring about the school progress, so thought I would share this happy news with you all.:)

    Anuradha: Loved the quote! Thanks!

SH: Yay, you are back. Happy to see you here.:)

  10. Just wanted to say thanks for the great recipes you have on here. Hubs (he’s Goan who could never do without his meat!) and I recently turned vegetarian and we totally love the stuff you’ve put together. And the photos – makes it as good as tasting it all. I convert them all to non-fat – absolutely no oil even to ‘do the tadka.’ It’s all healthy and keeping us coming back for more. Great job, girl! All the best..
