Weekend This & That ~ About “Mahanandi Selections”

I have been thinking of finding someways to support and pay for the expenses of my blog hosting lately. The cost of hosting is also increasing with the traffic that I get to this site. Opening a storefront using Amazon.com seemed like a reasonable opportunity to go with, without cluttering my blog space with generic google ads. Hence I started “Mahanandi Selections”.

Amazon.com would pay me a small commission for each purchase made through this store. If you have an account with Amazon and buying from there, I would like to ask you to go through my store to support Mahanandi. I’d only show limited selection (nine, 54 items) on my storefront, but you can also purchase anything available at Amazon.com through “Mahanandi Selections” either by using search button or sub categories.

I greatly appreciate your support. Thanks!

  1. I have an idea for you! I’ve wanted to print out a few of your recipes without the comments. (With all of the wonderful photos and your layout, of course!) It is difficult to do with my printer set-up. If you have the ability to design the “recipe cards”, how about using paypal to sell them for 99 cents or something like that?
    Just an idea…..

  2. Indira –

Question for you…I want to buy the lodge dosa pan but I see that the pan is only 10 1/2 inches wide. Aren’t the dosas going to be smaller than usual?

  3. Hi Shelly, thanks for the idea. Let me think about it.

Hi Sam: thanks for your interest.
I have jsut measured my dosa pan (I remember your question about it). It’s 11 inches diameter with rim and the actual cooking surface for dosa is 10 inches. We get decent size dosas with this pan. Not too big like Udipi restaurant, also not too small like IHop pancakes. Medium size, one could have 2 to 3 dosas easily.

There is also a 12 inch diameter pan from the same company, but little bit pricey.

    Hope this helps.

  4. Indira,
I hope you had a wonderful Deepavali yesterday at your new home. Our Deepavali lunch comprised dishes from your site and I want to thank you for that. Your Dondakaya recipe turned out great.

    Best wishes.

  6. Indira,
This looks great! I have an Amazon account and I will definitely go through your site to make certain purchases! Good luck with everything. 🙂

  7. Like I said, you can count on a lodge purchase next month from me! the only thing i usually look for is the minimum free super shipping saving offer, and it will be great if you have products that fall under that offer. thanks!

also- amazon has an honor system through which people can pay for digital content – information, entertainment etc.- one can collect as little as a dollar. may be something you can look into. It is optional – but I am sure there are people out there who would be willing to pay for your recipes.

    bye

  9. Indira, best of luck with your Amazon store!

Another suggestion: group your recipes by festival, occasion, flavors or whatever you think makes sense, and sell them as recipe books through lulu.com. Price them such that they are still affordable and you make a reasonable margin on each sale. This is something I have been considering doing for a long time but have just been too lazy to do it. You have a ready target market – the number of dinner tables that have been graced by your recipes is innumerable.

There’s a lot to be said for recipes on paper and even more for a well-designed delicious collection – as yours are bound to be! (no pun intended on the word bound!)

  10. hi indira,
i saw your comment on the disappearance of InjiPennu. I too was wondering what had happened to her. Thought it was the problem of my settings or something like that. She had once sent me an email from a gmail id. When i tried to access that, the mail bounced. Its terrible to completely lose track of someone like this. Also, remember she had never revealed her true name in any of the posts. I wonder where she’s disappeared to.

  14. Thanks for your supporting words on my a-store. I appreciate it.

Also thanks for your ideas. I am keeping them all in a folder, will apply whenever I have free time or will to do more. Thanks!

Hi Prabha: I have very little control over this shop, I could only display 9 items on the storefront, write few words about it, that’s all. Amazon controls everything. The items I am going to display are going to be at reasonable price and useful for everyday cooking kind of items. I will also keep your suggestions in mind. thanks!

Hi Renu, Manisha: InjiPennu is like a sister to me. Generous with her affection, she made blogging a whole lot of fun. I don’t know what happened, and I am very sad to see my dear friend’s blog no more. I know a lot of us feel the sameway about her. But what can we do except respect her privacy and intentions.

Hi @: I have just added a rice cooker to the product lists in the storefront. This ‘aroma’ brand rice cooker is what I currently use in my kitchen. There are lot of other models also, please do a amazon search before selecting yours. Thanks.

  15. Hi Indira,
I shop at Amazon for books often, will go through your store next time. No one seem to know the whereabouts of dear Ingi, mails are bouncing back. I hope she will drop us a line sometime just to let us know that she is alright. Hope you enjoyed a happy deepavali.

    Indira replies:
Archana, thanks for your support, I greatly appreciate it.
Looks like Inji is having trouble with blogger beta edition.

    Comment by Archana — October 23, 2006 @ 11:35 am

  16. I agree, Indira. It would be good just to know that Inji’s OK, though. She has always been very vocal and a voice of reason, so it’s a little unnerving to find her online presence gone without a goodbye. 🙁

  17. Indira, let me know if you would like my editing/proofing services. I’ll be glad to help.

    Indira replies:
Terri, you would do that for me. How sweet!
I’ll certainly ask you for help if I need it. Thanks Terri for this generous offer and also for your nice comments on other posts. I missed replying to your comments, life is going way fast here in this new place.:)

  18. Indira:
I have a question.. i am going to order few stuffs from amazon.. and i have an account with amazon (which will waive $30 towards my purchase) and now my question is, if i go through Mahanandi selections’s “go to amazon” and then order the stuff that is my cart, will that help Mahanandi, i am not sure, that is why wanted to ask you about it. Please let me know.
thanks for your info about mandoline slicer, i am going to go with the one you suggested. Thanks a lot Indira!
You might be happy to know our dear Ingi is back, but the sad thing is that most of her recents posts are not there and we hope, she is working on its recovery!

    Indira replies:
Yes. You can go through the Mahanandi’s Amazon link and purchase as you would normally. I believe Amazon.com would automatically track purchases if shoppers went through my store link. Also you would see “mahanandi07-20” (my store ID number) somewhere in the Amazon URL. As long as you have that number in URL, Amazon will credit me. Thanks for your support, Karthi. I greatly appreciate it. Do let me know how you like that mandoline slicer. You have to be careful just you would with a sharp knife for the first few times when you use a mandoline. Please remember that. Happy shopping and thanks for very much.
Yes, I have been checking Inji’s blog daily, to tell you the truth, atleast two to three times a day. I am waiting for her to post a new topic so that I’d leave a comment about how worried she made us all. 🙂

  19. Indira,

Do you know if it would help Mahanandi even if I bought used items from other sellers via Amazon? I am trying to decide if I should buy new or slightly used. Please let me know.

    Thanks,
    Aparna T

    Indira replies:
Hi Aparna, Yes. Anything you would buy through Mahanandi Selections (new or used) will be credited to Mahanandi’s account.
    Thanks and Happy New Year!

  20. In case anybody else has the same question as above – I did some research and it seems like Amazon will pay the referral fee (to Mahanandi) even for items from third party sellers.
