Chilled Cherry Yogurt

Diminished appetite and constant need for something cool, it’s that kind of hot day here in Seattle.

To revive the sweltering spirits, I had to prepare something pleasant. Sweet and juicy, in rich mahogany color, Washington state’s own beautiful bing cherries came to the rescue. Few cherries halved, pitted and mixed with yogurt, then refrigerated for half an hour. Preparing chilled cherry yogurt at home is a simple process with delightful results.

Yesterday’s ratatouille reheated with pasta and freshened with mint, plus chilled cherry yogurt ~ Our meal today

Recipe:
(for two)
2 cups fresh homemade yogurt
15 cherry fruits
Salt and Sugar ~ a pinch each
********
Rinse and cut the cherries in half. Twist, separate the halves and pullout the pit.
Add salt and sugar to yogurt. Whisk the yogurt to smooth or buzz in a blender.
Stir in the cherries. Refrigerate for about half an hour. Enjoy the chilled cherry treat!

  7. Wonderful pics Indira! That yougurt really drags me to your home 😉 I would recommend Mathy Kandasamy’s Ganji flavored with coconut milk along with coconut thuvayal to be the best food during hot summer days. I almost had it everyday during this summer in Chennai.

  11. Indira, the cherry yogurt is beautiful; I can almost taste it all the way on the other coast from that photo! 🙂 I am missing my trip for Michigan cherries this July, made me happy to see yours.

  13. Indira,
Great blog here. I’m inspired to try out a few of your recipes. But before that, can you tell me what kind of food processor you use? I’m considering getting a Kitchenaid or Cuisinart food processor – do you have any recommendations or suggestions on what works best for traditional Andhra recipes? I’m really craving some vadas and chutney right now! 😉

  14. Hi Indira,

I have been a fan of your blog for almost over a year now! Thank you for sharing your valuable treasures.

I could not find the link to your Indian Foodblog list where I could also do a custom google search. This was very helpful since I could just enter a word and it would search all the Indian food blogs.

    Thanks,
    Pallavi

  16. Hi Archana: We went to see the Ballards locks last week. I remember the Wallingford market name. We cross it to go to Ballards, right?
The cherries here are really the best. So plump, fresh and wax-free.:)

Jyothi and Aruna: You are most welcome and thanks.

Hi Chandrika: Welcome back. You were missed! Hope you had a wonderful time in India.
Also glad to read that you tried and liked the peanut chutney recipe.

Suganya: 114, 106? My God, that is hot. Summer is here, isn’t it? Looks like the entire US is under the heatwave.

    Coffee: :).
The weird photo placement was the effect of heat and no a/c at home. 🙂 It made sense to me somehow.:)

Nirmala: You are always most welcome to our home.
Thanks to your suggestion, I prepared gangi with rosematta rice for our meal today. Liked it a lot. Thanks Nirmala.

Hi Deepa: I’d like to help and I have a suggestion.
Please prepare an ad in 150 x180 pixel size in Jpeg, like “provide the Seeds to Sow” ad and mail me. I will publish the ad on the sidebar of Mahanandi.

    Thanks Cynthia.

Congratulations on the curry leaves usage, Madam Chow.
About the meme- thanks for tagging me. I made a promise in the beginning to respond to memes related to food topics only.
My apologies. I hope for your understanding.

Hi Linda: Hope you are enjoying the bing cherries of Washington state.:)

    Thanks Seema.

Hi Visakha: I use a Cuisinart food processor model no: dlc-5. It works great.
About my recommendation – I definitely recommend our own Sumeet or preeti 3 jar style mixers. They cost almost the same and works better than the food processor for our type of recipes.
My food processor purchase was a rookie mistake.:) I didn’t know any better at that time.

    Hi Pallavi:
Food blog list and search engine – click here. They are on the left sidebar.
    Hope that helps.

Musical: Great to see a fellow fan of cherry yogurt.:)
