  19. Hi Indira,

Hope you had a wonderful Diwali!
I simply love your site! I was checking your earlier posts – you sure have lots of patience.. with all those elaborate recipes! All those lovely photographs make your site even more appealing! Even Sanjeev Kapoor doesn’t have as appealing a site as yours!

I know my query would be a little inappropriate here, is ‘Yellow split peas’ and ‘Bengal gram dal’ one & the same? I was checking your site for ‘Yellow split peas’….

    Thanks,

  20. Thank you all for the warm greetings!
I wish you the same as well. and I hope you all had a marvelous festival day and lovely weekend.

Hi Madhu: Thanks and Shubha Deepavali!
Yellow split peas are from peas (vatana, yellow/white peas)
Bengal gram (chana dal or sanaga pappu) are from black chickpeas.
So these two are totally different ingredients but often many mistake them for same.
Although they have a similar color, size and shape, they taste entirely different.
You can see the bengal gram – where and how in a photo: click here.
    Hope this helps.

  21. I made that mistake too, Indira! and was wondering the taste was not right! Thanks a lot for the link! What do we use Yellow split peas for?

    Thanks again,
