Hi Indira, I just made my first toor dal dish on Sunday, and now see that you posted this picture on the same day - what a beautiful coincidence!

I cooked it with green peppercorns and smoked Spanish paprika, not exactly an Indian dish... But toor dal was really delicious! I will post the recipe in my blog later this week, and spread the word about toor dal!

Indira, you just brought some more memories back. We used to have salted boiled pacchi kandulu(raw toor). Its been ages since i saw raw toor dal again. Kudos to you for finding the raw toor dal and taking that fabulous picture.

Hi Indira,

An interesting thing I would like to share is, toor dal is something that my American husband is also a big fan of. So it is not just us Indians who are bowled over by the taste of this great comfort good.

Regards,
Deepthi

Indira, my husband accidentally bought a pack of whole toor dhal (the dried one in your picture) and I have just had the pack not knowing what to make with it. Do you have any suggestions as to what one can make with it? Thank you.

Indira,

I can't wait for your post. Toor dal, aka, kandi pappu, is our lifeline. We rarely have meal without it in some form. Due to recent high costs of polished toor dal, we recently started buying unpolished. It tastes awesome, and is much healthier for us. Only thing that has been tough getting used to is the different color of our daily pappu preparation.
