Our friends came over last evening and they were forced to have a sleepover since it started to snow little heavy towards the evening. We had Pongal and Coconut Chutney for breakfast and lunch at a restaurant.

Tonight I put food out buffet style - a plate full of bread and then salami and cheddar and brie and cottage cheese and olives and almonds and pickled garlic cloves and sliced tomatoes and potato chips and finally a large bowl of lettuce with herbs. This is the sort of cold dinner we had when I was a girl in Germany - bread and meat and pickles. My son always cheers when he realises that's the meal - he likes picking out what he wants without stress and then eating it on the sofa instead of at the dining room table.

What do you get when some of the ingredients of Guacamole and Hummus decide to marry? A "cheesy" spread that when spread on sprouted whole wheat bread slices and grilled makes a pretty darn good substitute for dairy-free grilled cheese sandwiches.

Recipe is basically some variation of i roughly mashed avocado, juice of half a lime or lemon,(optional i clove of crushed garlic), few green chillies and tahini well blended and combined with rough chopped tomatoes and (optionally add onons as well) salt to taste.

Yumm lunch this sat afternoon:)
