First day of the year and what are we going to do?
Let’s dig a hole and plant something fruitful.
That’s what we did today. We dug a hole in the backyard and planted a mango tree. It’s a Cogshall variety mango, a housewarming gift from friends Sunil and Anita. Also planted four rows of sprouted red potatoes. Houston winter is almost like northeast spring. I am hoping the plants would survive the winter here without any fear of frost.

:-) Welcome Welcome!

Hi Indira,
Happy New Year to you. Wow your house looks nice and sprawling. Seems like you have lot of garden space. Wish the weather here in CT was warm. Its very cold now. Since you mentioned that the weather is springlike, maybe you can plant radish (mulangi) too. Seeds to be sown directly into the soil where you plan to grow them. Waiting to see more of your plants and ofcourse your cooking.

Hello Indira,
Wish you a very happy, healthy and prosperous new year.
I am from Michigan and I have been following your blog for more than 2 yrs. now. Your blog has inspired me in a lot of ways - right from trying new fruits, vegs.,organic produce to even think about farmer’s market. I try to make more healthy choices when I serve food to our two young daughters. For me, your blog is about a way of life than just trying new recipes.
I love gardening too and this blog post made me comment. We are looking to move out and Houston is one of the places we are considering. Till then I will stare at your mango tree as I face the gloomy winter days ahead.
Keep up the good work. I really appreciate how you put 100% in all your posts.
Usha
